Dad was a meat and potatoes man and that little breakfast just wasn't enough for him but he didn't want to hurt his bride's feelings, so he bought a box of oatmeal and tucked it out of sight. After she left each morning he would quickly prepare a bowl of oatmeal, eat it, wash the evidence and put everything away before he left for work. (This was long before microwaves!)
A few months later Mom was deep-cleaning the kitchen and found the open box of oatmeal. Dad confessed that he needed more to eat so he had been preparing a second breakfast each morning.
By the time we came along it wasn't unusual for Dad to be the one who cooked breakfast, especially when we were up early for Seminary.
Someday I should write about the adventures of breakfast with dad - such as blue or green hot cereal...
